A COUPLE OF WAYS TO THINK OF YOUR SKIN - AND CARE FOR IT.

This week I’m feeling somewhat sassy - maybe a dash of dark and dramatic - Courtney Love vibe, and she (and Hole) just so happen to have a classic from back in the day called “Celebrity Skin”.  Even though the song itself is not exactly about taking care of your skin, I’m just going to go with it and throw it in.  Also - twas a “Black Supermoon” last night, and that seems very Courtney-esque to me? Okay, enjoy and then we talk about skin and such.

As heard in Captain Marvel! Listen to more Hole here: https://Hole.lnk.to/Essentials Music video by Hole performing Celebrity Skin. (C) 1998 UMG Recordings, Inc. #Hole #CelebritySkin #CaptainMarvel

There are a couple of ways that I like to think about skin.  Firstly, I like to think about it like a sponge. It is highly absorbent, and it can get dried out.

Have you ever taken a fresh new sponge out of its package and tried to use it while it’s still dry?  If you try to clean up that mess or get to those dishes without running it under water first, it’s not going to clean up anything. A completely dry sponge simply won’t absorb, where as wetting said sponge will give you that desired clean up experience.

Relating it to your skin, try think of your skin like a sponge, absorbing all the beneficial serums, oils, or other fab products you want to use in your regimen.  Don’t apply them to bone dry skin. Either get your product right onto your freshly washed – still damp - face or keep a bottle of floral water at your beauty routine station and mist with that first, to bring the moisture level back before applying your products.

NOTE: Rose Water is my personal fave, partially because you can get it in any grocery store aisle for a few bucks, and partially because it reminds me of my skin being soft like rose petals. There are umpteen different floral hydrolats out there though.  I also really like Chamomile, Lavender, Neroli, and Orange. I like to keep a mister bottle in my office, at my bedside, and in my handbag for whenever I need a refreshing spritz.  Throughout the day you might notice you’re feeling pretty dehydrated, so drinking some water and giving your skin a little “drink” is good.

One of my misting bottles with Rose Water. The bottle is not totally clear because this bottle also has a few drops of Geranium & Carrot Seed Essential Oils in it, but we can talk about those ingredients another time.

Okay, onto the other way I like to think about skin. Leather.  Yes, leather. Also try to think of your skin like leather.

It can be buttery and smooth and soft and well cared for, or it can be dry and cracked and lined.  We can all think of someone that has spent many a day baking under the sun.  Let’s not even digress into sunscreen just now. Another post for another time.

Getting back to leather, on the flip side you also hear those positive references of smooth buttery well-cared-for leather. I hate to state the obvious, but leather is actual skin, and to care for it you need to clean it every so often, as well as “moisturize” it or oil it regularly.

Whether you are a person that likes to use creams, or serums, or oils – I prefer the latter over the last few years myself – keep that visage of yours moisturized.  Apply those oils and creams to damp skin and do it OFTEN.

NOTE: I keep my Youth Boost Rollerballs stashed EVERYWHERE, and I use them ALL THE TIME. I have the traditional fine lines that have been threatening to start settling in around my eyes and mouth, along with a couple of suspect spots on my cheeks, and this one specific line in between my eyebrows that irks me. That specific line is so annoying :/

So If I wake up at night and my eyes feel dry I will grab the rollerball on my nightstand. If I am at work in my office I will grab the one on my desk. If I am out and I feel parched, I will use the one in my handbag.  Doing this over the last few years I honestly think has helped those lines not settle into my skin.

I must say here, that I don’t mind aging -OR- I have really flipped my thoughts on it. I feel thankful to be healthy and alive in general, but I still like to prevent the lines, so I’ll religiously use the roller balls on these places - I know I sound redundant, but, really, ALL. THE. TIME.  I strongly suggest stashing your fave oils, creams or serums in all the places you spend time, and definitely keep one in your handbag.

Okay, I am keeping this post shorter and sweeter than usual.  My long-winded self is struggling with that but  my parents are coming into town from San Diego today, and I haven’t seen these lovely people in actual years, and I’m getting so excited!!!

So on that note, thank you for stopping by, and have a lovely day or night wherever in the world you may be.

Tara xx
